Registering an NQT or ECT for induction

If your school has employed an NQT or ECT,
you'll need to register them for induction...

If you have employed an NQT who needs to complete either one or two Induction Periods under the old NQT induction regulations, you'll need to allocate them an Induction Tutor at school and register the NQT with an Appropriate Body, who will oversee their remaining induction - Lambeth can provide Appropriate Body services for your NQT

If you have employed an ECT who needs to complete induction under the current ECT induction regulations, you'll need to:

  • Decide which training option the ECT will follow for the ECF training element of their induction - Full, Core or school-designed

  • Appoint an Induction Mentor (for the training element of induction) and an Induction Tutor (for the support and assessment element of induction) at school - these should not be the same person, unless unavoidable, and each ECT at the school should have a unique Induction Mentor, unless being Induction Mentor to multiple ECTs is the key role of someone's job

  • Register the ECT with an Appropriate Body, who will oversee their induction - Lambeth can provide Appropriate Body services for your ECT

  • Register both ECT and Mentor, and create a link between ECT and Mentor, on the DfE portal, and indicate which training option the ECT will be following during induction

Please note that Appropriate Bodies cannot do this for schools as part of the registration process, as they have not been given access to the DfE portal, nor can they advise schools on any issues that they may have in registering ECTs or Mentors onto the portal
